Banana (2013)

(Elias)

In 1992, Marcio DA SILVA, aged 14, began capoeira in Teresopolis, Brazil with Mestre Elias, da Escola de Capoeira Grupo Senzala. During the next seven years, Marcio trained, invested himself and gave his first lessons.

In 1994, he took the blue rope and two years later the green rope (Instructor). In 1999, he left for France to join the Contre Mestre Torneiro (teacher at the time) and Bem Ti Vi (now Capoeira Brasil group). He then began to teach in the cities of Paris, Melun, Amiens and Cergy. In August 2000, he returned to Teresopolis, obtained the purple rope and became Professor Banana.

Back in France, he joined the Capoeira Saint Germain association and decided to develop his work there. The first year, the association has about twenty students and two lessons per week. But very quickly, Marcio and the association made capoeira known and recognized and since then the number of students has continued to increase from year to year. Today, Marcio gives eight lessons a week in the town of Saint Germain en Laye and has nearly 180 students. His work has developed and extended to other towns in Yvelines (Chatou, Le Vésinet, Triel sur seines, Mantes la jolie) and Hauts de Seines (Gennevilliers). It has already organized three international meetings in Saint Germain, in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Again, the number of participants, visitors and teachers continues to increase with each event.

In May 2007, the first children's festival takes place. A great pride for Marcio and a great promise for the future. In August 2007, he left for Brazil. Rewarded for his efforts and the development of his teaching in France, he obtained the brown rope and became Contre Mestre BANANA. Her dream would be to have her own capoeira academy. He would like to have a space in Saint Germain or in one of the surrounding towns. This in order to develop his work more freely there, to teach capoeira and all activities related to Brazilian culture (batucada, samba…) and to organize one day the first European Festival of capoeira. This is how in August 2013 he obtained his red rope and nicknamed mestre banana
