Caracu (2013)

(Zumbi)

With the aim of bringing Afro-Brazilian culture, especially Capoeira from Grupo Senzala, to Berlin, the association invited Contra Mestre Caracu (Robson Ramos) from Rio de Janeiro to teach regular Capoeira courses in Berlin. Caracu was trained as a professional Capoeira instructor and percussionist at the "Centro Cultural Senzala de Capoeira" under Mestre Peixinho. Since 1998, Contra Mestre Caracu has been teaching in Portugal at the University of Minho, and his work is now continued by the Associacão Cultural de Senzala Portugal. The association's work aims to contribute to cultural and artistic education, fostering cross-cultural understanding. They harness the positive impact of Capoeira on overall quality of life to promote the personal and social development of youth. In addition to teaching and promoting Capoeira, Capoeira Senzala Berlin e.V.'s program includes elements of Afro-Brazilian culture, such as Maculêlê (stick dance), traditional Brazilian music, and dances. Through its diverse connections within the Capoeira community, the association seeks to create a space for international contacts and intercultural exchange in Capoeira.
