Garrincha

Mestre Garrincha, also known as Jose Luiz Oliviera, was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1953. He started practicing capoeira at the age of 12 and became a student of Mestre Peixinho, one of the founders of Grupo Senzala de Capoeira. Garrincha became a mestre himself in 1978 and has since taught capoeira all over the world, including in France, Germany, and the United States. Interestingly, Mestre Garrincha is also a talented musician and has released several albums of capoeira music. He is known for his unique style of playing the berimbau, a traditional Brazilian instrument used in capoeira. In addition to capoeira, Garrincha is also a practitioner of other martial arts, including jiu-jitsu and muay thai.
